DANCE STYLES &CLASSES

L.A. STYLE

also known as street jazz was originally the fusion of street styles with the precision of modern jazz. Many have their own unique style, but common is the focus on detail, precision timing and synchronisation. Seen in many music videos and choreography competitions and usually danced to popular hit music and R&B.

POP/COMMERCIAL

also known as jazz funk, is a dominant style in the dance industry. It has an emphasis on power, performance and usually a diva touch. Music is usually popular hits but other genres are also used.

ALL-STARS CLASS

An advanced level class in hip hop newschool or L.A. style with different local and international teachers.

DANCEHALL

From Jamaica with original steps and an emphasis on grooves and feeling. In Jamaica, dancehall is connected to a way of life but in the west often seen through music videos.

BREAKING

The original style of hip hop is a dynamic dance both up and down on the ground. It is deeply connected to hip hop culture. Music of choice is usually funk, soul, break beats and hip hop.

POPPING

Has many different techniques from grooves to isolations, systems and mechanical movements. Usually danced to funk, g-funk and more recently dubstep.

HOUSE

A footwork step based style danced to house music. The dance is connected to the clubbing culture of house.

HIP HOP

originally a mix of classic hip hop styles and social dances approached in a new way and combined with newer moves and techniques as well as bounce. Continuous development has led to many creating their own unique style within the dance.

LADIES CLASS

A heels class with wedges. Inspired by the sensual and feminine choreographies that currently dominate many videos by prominent singers like Beyoncé, Rihanna, JLO etc. Let go, be hot and feel like a strong, independent woman.

AFRO VIBES // AFROBEAT
